Today, I will intentionally look for beautiful signs of summer: reflections on the lake, green grass, blue skies or even gray skies made tolerable by the smell of sweet rain. Today, I will listen for the love songs of birds, the breeze making its way through the leaves on the trees out back, the pitter patter of rain on my favorite picture window. It’s funny how rain can be so melancholy, peaceful and refreshing all at the same time. Today, I will breathe in deeply and take time to enjoy the scents of summer—even the cow poo in the field across the way as I know that that cow poo eventually fertilizes a field of beautiful green grass and wildflowers. Today, I will stop to feel the gentle breeze as it caresses my skin, the warmth of the sunshine embracing my soul or, if the day brings it, the cleansing rain on my face. Today, I will intentionally look for the Presence of God and realize that all these things are His love letters to me; tangible proof of an infinite, unyielding and unfailing love.
Writer’s Note: Just for fun….sing to the tune of The Devil Went Down to Georgia…and feel free to add a verse or two! Have a happy and, hopefully, cool day!
The devil went down to Georgia, he was looking for a soul to grill.
He was in a bind ‘cos hell was too confined and he was willin’ to make a deal.
When he came across some Georgians fanning and and complanin’ it’s hot,
the devil jumped upon a hickory stump and said: “let me tell y’all what:
“I guess you didn’t know it, but I’m heat lover too.
“And if you’d care to take a dare, I’ll make a bet with you.
“Now you can say it’s way too hot, but give the devil his due:
“I bet a big ol’ ice cube against your soul, ‘cos I think I’m hotter than you.
The southerner said: “My name is Bubba and it might be a sin, But I’ll take your bet, your gonna regret, ‘cos I’m the hottest that’s ever been.”
Bubba you wipin’ off your brow and show how hot your are,
‘Cos hells broke loose in Georgia and the devil deals the cards.
And if you win, you get this big ol’ ice cube made of cold.
But if you lose, the devil gets your soul….
Writer’s Note: I have always hated stormy weather. I always found it frightening, and still do to some degree. However, about a year ago, as I sat outside on my patio and watched as a summer storm took over the skies over my home, God gave me these words and this “vision.” Makes me smile. 🙂
The darkness rises up from the horizon as if all the demons in hell are readying for battle. Rapidly they advance into the heavenly realms and the world beneath grows dim. The clouds loom darker as the sounds of battle begin. Thank God, the enemy has obviously met resistance. Thunder rolls as angels hurl lightning bolts at the aggressors and the sky lights up with instantaneous flashes of hope. The good guys are winning. They always do. And just as He has always promised, from the darkest of circumstances, the living waters of Heaven rain down on the earth. Thank you, God, for this day; for this storm; and for the beautiful things that will grow because of it. Amen and Ehmen. Have a beautiful day, y’all and embrace both the sunshine and the storms. Much love, Brenda.
